A Long Battle

In 1995 they gave him 2-5 years to live.  He passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011.  For you math whizzes, that's 11-14 years more than doctors predicted.

He was a gentle, kind, thoughtful, proud, distinguished, loving, caring, strong, hardworking man.  He was my grandpa.  After a 20 year long battle with cancer, his body finally wore out.  He fought a long hard fight and I think he won.  He doesn't have to suffer through any more pain, treatment or doctor's visits.  And best of all, he is now spending eternity with Jesus.  That's all he talked about in his last few days.

I have so many incredible memories of this incredible man.  I'm so thankful he was my grandpa and I'm proud to be his granddaughter.  He was a decorated veteran of the Air Force and Air National Guard.

We miss you and love you Grandpa.  Can't wait to see you again.

A Simple Reminder

"Many are the plans in a person's heart,
but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails."
- Proverbs 19:21
What an incredible verse.  Just about all day everyday, I feel like my thoughts are consumed with my "plans."  Plans for the future, plans for the day, plans for my family, plans for my free time, plans for dinner, plans for my chores, etc.  But how often do those thoughts turn to the Lord's plans?  Or better yet, why don't they even start out that way?
I know sometimes our plans line up with the Lord's, and sometimes they don't.  Oftentimes, it is difficult to discern between knowing if our "plans" are just that, ours, or if they are the Lord's doing.  Isn't it such a comfort to know that God's purpose will prevail?  Many times I worry so much about me/us making the "right" choice that I completely take the reins from God and don't even act like I trust him.  Something that Nick says a lot that I need to hear over and over is this: We have no reason not to trust God.  He's proved himself faithful time and time again.  So true.  So, several times a day, I have to humbly hand back over the reins.  Why wouldn't I want him driving anyway?  I guess because I'm a fallen, stubborn human being.
Just needed this as a reminder today.
PS - I sure did use a lot of "air quotes" in this post.  Sorry about that...haha.

A Sister Visit

The weekend before last my sisters were able to come down and visit us!  We had such a great time together and I know Caleb was sure happy to spend some time with his aunts!

Saturday we opened some Valentine's goodies.  Julie & Hollie got Caleb some sandbox toys.  Don't these look so fun to play with?!  Now, we just need a sandbox and we'll wait til Caleb is old enough to play in one.

[Imagine cute sandbox truck toys picture here]

They also got us this cute Valentine's cyclops.  :)  haha.  It just makes you want to say "Mike Wazowski!" doesn't it?  (hint: Monster's Inc -- the movie, c'mon guys).

[Imagine cute red fluffy stuffed cyclops here]

We played cards, made and decorated sugar cookies, played more games, made a special Valentine's dinner, and cuddled up with homemade popcorn to watch a movie.  Nick and I got Netflix through the Wii during all the snowstorms!  And Julie and Hollie (better known as plooer and holz at our house -- long story, well...not really, but not the point of this post).

[Imagine other fun pictures of the weekend here!]

Sunday we went to church and out to lunch.  It was such a great weekend and we really appreciate my sisters making the trip down!  Now this past weekend, Nick's family came down to see us and Caleb and to celebrate Tyler & Robyn's news!  And next weekend, we're heading up to Wichita and spend some time with my grandparents.  :)  We're so grateful for being surrounded by such wonderful family!!

Camera Issues

So, I haven't updated in awhile because my laptop decided to stop registering that my camera card was in it.  And, we can't find the camera cord.  So...needless to say, we can't get the pictures from our camera to our computer for the time being.

That means any future posts probably should have pictures that go with it, but we'll skip that part for now.  Just imagine the pretty pictures and I'll go ahead and post the words part.  :)

We're planning on getting a desktop with our tax money and we can't wait!

An Announcement!

Caleb's getting a cousin!!!

Just wanted to give a big congratulations to Tyler & Robyn (Nick's brother and his wife) on their bun in the oven!  Nick and I are going to be an uncle and aunt!  God blessed them with a little BIG surprise and our little niece or nephew should be here in October sometime!  We are very excited for them and Caleb can't stop talking cooing about how he can't wait to meet his cousin!  Here are the happy parents-to-be. :)

Congrats you two!

Caleb -- 3 months

Caleb is 3 months old today!!  Can't believe it's already been 3 months!!  Here are a few things to summarize him at 3 months:

-   He LOVES kicking.  He will kick and kick and kick.  And he will push up on his legs (like in a standing position) while we're holding him.
-  When he gets mad, he arches his back.
-  He's eating about 8 oz of formula at a time -- and boy can he suck down a bottle quick!!
-  He is talking and smiling more and more (well, making sounds anyway), especially when he's being changed.  I just think he's the most adorable thing ever.
-  He seems to be able to recognize Nick and me (or at least we like to think so...).
-  He can grab things and is starting to figure his hands out.  He'll grab my finger and if I squeeze his hand, he'll squeeze back.
-  He watches Nick and me when we walk out of the room.
-  He has a mat thing with toys hanging above his head and he absolutely loves it!! (pictures below). He talks so much when he's on it and kicks and tries to grab the toys.
-  He's still sleeping great through the night (seriously, he has spoiled us as first time parents).  He sleeps from about 10:00 pm to 5:00 am (which is when I get up for work anyway).
-  His swing is a magical thing.  If we put him in it when he's a little fussy or we need to get some things done around the house, it makes him content or puts him right to sleep.
-  He stays happy through his entire bath time now.
-  He's just about out of some of his 0-3 month clothes.  He's getting so long!

Here are some pictures of him from today and the past couple of weeks:

He loves this toy!

Doing push-ups with Daddy.

3 months old!

He can sit up like a big boy! (with a little help of course...)

Oh yeah, he also loves to stick his tongue out.

The hunters.  Caleb wants to be one of the guys.

Robyn & Tyler came over for dinner and to play games.  And Nick and Tyler processed a deer that Tyler had shot earlier in the week.

He just melts my heart.  Can't get enough of him!

Bath time!

A Visit from Family

Last weekend my parents and my grandpa came down to Arkansas to spend the weekend with us.  We had such a great visit - ate lots of great food, played lots of fun games and enjoyed being together.  Caleb was so happy to see his grandparents and Great Grandpa.  :)

I'm so grateful for such a wonderful family.  Thanks Mom, Dad and Grandpa for making the trip to see us!!!  We love you!

Isn't he so cute?  I'm totally obsessed with him.

My little man.

He just ate up being loved on by his grandparents.  :)

An action shot.  Playing games.  Hand and Foot to be exact.  Greatest game ever.  Nick and I can't get enough of it.  We've played almost every night since they game.  This game has been in my family for generations.  My Great Grandma Mac was a stud card player.  I plan to carry on the tradition.

This is for you, Mom!

Caleb just LOVES kicking.  He will kick and kick and kick.  He had such a blast kicking Grandpa right in the chest.

The weekend might have also included a broken toilet.  Don't worry - it's not from anything gross that we could tell.  haha!  But seriously...

That's a great note to end on too, huh?  We can't wait to see them again and are looking forward to my sisters visiting the weekend after the Superbowl!
