The Latest at the Braschler (new!) Household

We are all moved in to our new house!!!  We had a wet, cloudy, rainy, chilly day for moving, but with a LOT of help from Nick's family, we made it!!!  We still have a few things to get out of the parsonage and some cleaning to do, but most everything is moved to Siloam Springs.  We're still living out of boxes, but less and less as the days go on.  We could not have done this move without the awesome help of Nick's parents, brothers, our sister-in-law, his grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousin.  They provided meals, muscle, advice, and lots of love for Caleb!  We appreciate them so much.

Our second night in our new house, we realized we have an ant problem in the kitchen.  After some powerful anti-ANT spray, some mean words from me to the ants, and my fearless husband going through spray-to-ant combat, I'm happy to report that we have made a dent in the ant population of Northwest Arkansas.

It has been raining here for 4 days straight.  Supposedly, we have gotten 10-12+ inches of rain since Friday!!!  There is a TON of water all around which caused the closure of several roads today.  I'd like to show you some pictures, but our camera is packed away in some random box and it is super dark because of the cloudy, dreary weather (which actually I love).  hehe...

In other news, we bought some furniture!!!  After many visits to furniture stores and waffling back and forth about what I wanted, we finally found a set we love!  We bought them from Bynum's Home Furnishings in Siloam Springs.  Nick and I went there last week, but wanted to check out a few other places first.  The other places were a little out of our price range or they didn't have quite what we were looking for.  On moving day, while the men were loading up the second truckload, Robyn (my sis-in-law) and I headed back to Bynum's to check out the goods.  I narrowed it down to two sets that I liked, but could not decide.  The salesman actually offered for me to take home one pillow of each (the backsides were the same fabric/color/design of the couches) to see what they would look like in our house.  He didn't even take my name down or anything!  This was SO helpful in deciding.  I enlisted the help of Robyn and my mother-in-law and my gracious hubby and we decided on some beautiful, comfortable brown couches!  We really love them and are very happy with the purchase.  I was so against brown with the gray walls of our house, but they really go beautifully.  Thanks for everyone's input and ideas!  They were very helpful!

I will try to get some pictures up soon.  Our computer and internet are not hooked up/set up quite yet.  And there's that pesky camera to find.  :)

Furniture advice!

We have gotten rid of our green monster (see below for picture of said monster) and we're in the market for a new couch & loveseat set!  I'm having a hard time deciding on what color and fabric to get for it because we do have a little baby boy who will soon turn into a crawling, walking, messy little boy (at least he'll probably only get messier).  I've heard that microsuede cleans well.  I didn't like the look of it at first, because it can show your booty prints, but I like it a whole lot more now, especially now that I've heard it cleans well!

I love brown, but brown and gray just do not go together in my head.  But, I am totally clueless when it comes to home decor.  So, please help!  I'll take any advice/suggestions!  For pictures of the inside of our new house, see the two posts below this one.

Here is what we got rid of --- Good riddance!!!  I will add, however that we sold it for $50 more than we paid for it!  Sweet!

This thing was such a beast!!!

Living in Limbo

So...our house is currently in boxes - at least most of it is.  We're living life in limbo.  This means a lot of doing without and improvising with meals.  Luckily we're big fans of sandwiches.

We're hoping to close on our new house this week and start moving and unpacking our boxes over there.  Blogging posts may be few and far between for the next week at least.  We are so excited to get into our new place and have a home that's actually "ours".  I'll definitely put up some pictures once we get settled!

On another note, I'm not doing as well this week on my weight loss, but I'm working on it and will be continuing Level 2 of Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred - she's one tough trainer!!

Weigh-ins: 1 down, 3 to go

So, after the 2nd week of our weight loss challenge at work, we had our first weigh-in this morning.  I am happy to report that I am 6.8 pounds less of a woman!  (And I'm counting it as 7 lbs - I'm ok with rounding up!).  I'm looking forward to the next two weeks because I slacked a little in my exercise last week, so I know there is definite room for improvement.  I'm sure it will get even harder to lose pound-age, but as I build healthier habits, the eating and hopefully exercise time will become just part of the daily routine.  My husband has been so great in offering to get up and feed Caleb (or change him or whatever he needs at the moment) so that I can work out in the mornings before work.

Since I reported to the blog world about starting this weight loss competition, I thought I better keep you posted.  I'm 6.8 steps closer to being comfortable in wearing shorts!  Also, I gave myself an incentive that at 10 lbs lost, I would be able to get a hair cut.  Almost there!  I used to reward myself with food, but the new me knows that totally defeats the purpose!  (even though I'm definitely gonna mess up sometimes).  :)  I'll report back in two weeks on the next milestone.

Moving

The latest news for the Braschler family is that we are moving to Siloam Springs, AR from Gravette, AR.  I work in Siloam, Nick is there often for work and Caleb's daycare is there as well.  We are in the process of buying a house (hopefully we'll close very soon!).  Nick has gone full-time as a chaplain at Simmons and we are excited for this new opportunity.  Sadly, we are resigning at the church in Gravette and will be there only 3 more Sundays.  We have been so extremely blessed by the people and the support of First Christian Church - from scholarship support to ministry experience to many great relationships to the baby shower for Caleb to Nick's ordination and so much more in between, we can never express how grateful we are to the people at FCC for everything.  We will miss our students dearly, but luckily we'll just be 30 minutes south and can come up for special occasions!

Our new house has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a garage and a big backyard.  The owners originally were buying this as an investment home with the hopes to someday move in.  But their plans changed and they are moving out of state.  Fortunately for us, they have put in a lot of work and done a lot of replacements to the house including new carpet, new paint, new countertops, new appliances, and new tile.

This move will save us a ton on gas money and time.  It cuts an hour a day off of my commute and also allows me to be able to go home for lunch - saving on eating out and letting me get some chores done around the house during that time!  The house is about 5 minutes from work and 3 minutes from Caleb's daycare.

Here are a few pictures of our house from the listing:

We are buying For Sale By Owner and it has been such a great experience going through this process with this couple.  They have been wonderful and we wish them the best as they move out of state!

We will be sure to put up new pictures once we get settled in.  Our families will be coming in town in the next few weeks to help us pack, move and settle in.  We can't wait to see them!!!

Our Big 5 Month Old Boy

Caleb turned 5 months old yesterday!  And as my mom reminded me, I have now been a mom for 5 whole months.  It's crazy how time flies.  I sure do try to treasure and savor every little moment with Caleb and Nick - our sweet family moments.

Here are some of the latest Caleb things:
- He talks (baby goo-goo talk) and squeals all the time
- He loves to hold and grab things, fingers, faces, noses, mouths, necklaces, earrings, hair...
- He has found his feet in the last month and is trying to figure out how to reach them to his mouth
- His favorite place for anything is his mouth
- He is a drooling machine
- We're trying some solid foods - carrots were first (1st night he LOVED them and 2nd night he didn't want anything to do with them - see video).
- He's wearing 6-9 month clothes (unless they're shirts only, not onesies, then 12 months fits)
- We use size 2 diapers (Pampers are our favorite), but I think after we use up this next box, we might have to move up to size 3.
- He is definitely learning his name - and now he watches me leave as I drop him off at daycare (makes me want to take him with me!).  :)
- He recognizes me when I pick him up!!  So sweet!
- During his last daycare pics (2 days ago) he spit up during them and it was caught on camera - mid-spitup!
- He got pinkeye and an ear infection a couple of weeks ago, but didn't act like it bothered him one bit.  Poor baby!
- He sleeps turned completely on his side.
- He still kicks like crazy and gets so excited when you talk to him.
- He's losing his baby hair and his permanent hair is growing longer (looks like a buzz cut).
- He still smiles all the time.  :)
- Eyes are still blue so far
- He sleeps through the night so well!!  Lately it's been from 8:00ish pm - 6:00ish am (with maybe one or two pacifier re-plugs)
- He's getting ticklish around his neck, armpits and feet.
- He laughed for the first time a week and half ago and has only done it once since.  What a sweet sound!  He mostly squeals instead of laughing.
- He certainly loves his daddy.  :)

And there are many more things, but we'll go ahead and stop there.  Nick and I love being parents and especially that we get to do it together.  Caleb is such a special part of our lives and a HUGE blessing from the Lord!  We continue to pray that God would mold us into parents that honor him as we learn what all that entails (and as we mess up a lot too...).

Now for some pictures!

Had to get a drooling one.

Isn't this sweet?
