Refreshing, Relaxing Weekend

Well, we're back from our quick trip to the Kansas City area.  We were actually in Overland Park the whole time and we had such a great time.  We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites in Overland Park (Nick found a great deal at  It was so nice.  I didn't even take any pictures - guess I was just enjoying my time.

Friday night we went to eat at a place called Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue and it was sooooo delicious.  It reminded me of a KC Masterpiece restaurant.  Nick and I split a meal for two and it was sooooo good.  There was another family close by us that kept having to chase their toddler around and we agreed that it was nice to have a meal with just the two of us.

Saturday morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the hotel and then I dropped Nick off at the mall (where he mostly stayed in Barnes & Noble) while I headed to the bridal shower for my friend, Jenny.  Jenny's future aunts-in-law hosted the shower at one of their beautiful homes (seriously, like right out of a magazine) and they had fun activities and an incredible spread!  It was so fun to see my friends again and I can't wait for the wedding weekend in Chicago in September!

After the shower, I picked Nick up and we headed back to the hotel to hop in the pool for about an hour.  It has been soooo hot so we were glad to get some pool time.  Then we headed to the movies.  I was hoping to get to see some chick flick since I don't remember the last time I went to a movie, but there aren't many options out right now so we opted for Spiderman (I was a little spooked to see the Dark Night after the tragedy in Aurora - which by the way is the town we stayed in for Tyler & Robyn's wedding two years ago).  Then we headed to Outback for a yummy meal.

While Nick was at the mall he came across a nifty engraving place and had this vase engraved for me since this weekend also marked our 7 year dating "anniversary".  Can't believe we've been together 7 whole years - best 7 years of my life.  The night we started dating officially, we danced to a song at a rodeo by Tracy Byrd called The Keeper of the Stars and this quote is from that.

We headed home Sunday morning with a quick stop at a farm show so Nick could take a look around. Then we were reunited with Caleb!  It was nice to have some time with just Nick but it was also so great to come home and see Caleb.  Absence really does make the heart grow fonder.  :)

Caleb had a great time with Nana.  They played and played and played and watched Veggie Tales (his favorite along with Toy Story 3 and Madagascar), and hung out with Jackson and got spoiled rotten which is what Nanas do best.  :)  We're very thankful for Claudia for coming down for the weekend!

We came back relaxed and refreshed and ready to get back to it. Tonight we're headed to another Natural's baseball game and can't wait for it and the fireworks afterward!

Weekend Getaway

Tomorrow the husband and I are taking off for a weekend getaway!  Just the two of us!  My friend, Jenny, has a bridal shower in Overland Park, KS on Saturday, so we're going to take advantage and spend the whole weekend up there.  Nana is graciously coming down to watch Caleb so he will have lots of fun hanging out with her (or more like making her chase him around all day...).  We're looking forward to doing some things we don't normally get to do.  Like maybe go to a movie!  In a theater!  What's that like?  I don't remember.  It's been at least 11 months.  And even that one time I went, Caleb didn't let me finish it.  I am so stoked.  We're going to go out to eat and celebrate our 7 year "dating anniversary".  Best 7 years of my life.  :)

Anyway, I'm so excited to have some time away with my hubby.  And to see my soon-to-be-married friend!!  And Caleb is excited to have some time at home with Nana.  :)

Barnett's Shake of the Month

So, if you haven't ever been to Siloam Springs and you decide to come down for a visit, a trip to Barnett's Dairyette is a must.  It's a great old-fashioned burger joint with the best fries, burgers and ice cream treats around.  They have a shake of the month with all kinds of delicious flavors.  I fully intended to begin the year trying each one of them, but for some reason it just didn't happen.  I have to say that I loved February's - a chocolate covered cherry shake and in the fall they always have pumpkin pie shake and one month was an apple pie shake with pieces of real apple pie mixed in the shake.  Oh my.  July's is Bananas Foster shake and it is oooooo ooooo good!!  It has carmelized bananas and cinnamon and other goodness.  If you live in Siloam or are visitng, make sure you go try it!

Garden Update

Our garden is growing like crazy!  Despite the army of ants that has taken over the entire side of the yard (and my husband loves it when I go on and on about them - ha.), everything has grown pretty well.  If you remember a few months ago, here's where we started:

And here's a picture I took about two weeks ago:

We've gotten plenty of cucumbers (Nick got a delicious pickle recipe from his grandma), banana peppers and tomatoes.  The jalapenos are growing pretty well and the green peppers are about to be ready to harvest.  We've had a harder time with the green beans and blackberries.  But I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with how well everything has gone, especially when you look at the before pictures.  Nick has spent a lot of time taking care of the garden and I'm pretty proud of him!  :)  Now if only we can get rid of those pesky ants...

"Camping" with Friends

Whew, we are long overdue for an update.  I'll do my best to catch up.  :)  We have been having lots of fun at the Braschler household the past few weeks.

The last week of June we went on a "camping trip" with our good friends the Gutshalls.  We were planning on doing a real tent camping trip at the lake but when we saw that temps were going to be 104 and 105, we didn't think that sounded like a ton of fun with two 1 yr olds, so the Gutshalls graciously offered to host us to "camp" at their place for the weekend.  We had a blast spending time with them.  Usually when we hang out, it's for a few hours and then we have to leave to get the boys to bed or something - it always feels too short.  We cooked out hotdogs, had delicious chocolate chip cookies (which Caleb helped himself to from the counter - he's getting so tall!), and lots of other good food, played games, went to the park, went swimming, napped, chatted and laughed, visited a pizza joint on the Fayetteville square, and enjoyed some good old fashioned fellowship with good friends.

Giving hugs to Emerson

This was the best picture we could get of both boys looking at the camera.

They loved playing in, Brody, the dog's pen.

Yummy lunch!

At the pool!

We are so grateful to have friends like them and boys around the same age to play together.  We hope to do another camping trip in the fall and then "camp" at the Braschler campground this winter.
