Well, we're back from our quick trip to the Kansas City area. We were actually in Overland Park the whole time and we had such a great time. We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites in Overland Park (Nick found a great deal at hotels.com). It was so nice. I didn't even take any pictures - guess I was just enjoying my time.
Friday night we went to eat at a place called Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue and it was sooooo delicious. It reminded me of a KC Masterpiece restaurant. Nick and I split a meal for two and it was sooooo good. There was another family close by us that kept having to chase their toddler around and we agreed that it was nice to have a meal with just the two of us.
Saturday morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the hotel and then I dropped Nick off at the mall (where he mostly stayed in Barnes & Noble) while I headed to the bridal shower for my friend, Jenny. Jenny's future aunts-in-law hosted the shower at one of their beautiful homes (seriously, like right out of a magazine) and they had fun activities and an incredible spread! It was so fun to see my friends again and I can't wait for the wedding weekend in Chicago in September!
After the shower, I picked Nick up and we headed back to the hotel to hop in the pool for about an hour. It has been soooo hot so we were glad to get some pool time. Then we headed to the movies. I was hoping to get to see some chick flick since I don't remember the last time I went to a movie, but there aren't many options out right now so we opted for Spiderman (I was a little spooked to see the Dark Night after the tragedy in Aurora - which by the way is the town we stayed in for Tyler & Robyn's wedding two years ago). Then we headed to Outback for a yummy meal.
While Nick was at the mall he came across a nifty engraving place and had this vase engraved for me since this weekend also marked our 7 year dating "anniversary". Can't believe we've been together 7 whole years - best 7 years of my life. The night we started dating officially, we danced to a song at a rodeo by Tracy Byrd called The Keeper of the Stars and this quote is from that.
We headed home Sunday morning with a quick stop at a farm show so Nick could take a look around. Then we were reunited with Caleb! It was nice to have some time with just Nick but it was also so great to come home and see Caleb. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder. :)
Caleb had a great time with Nana. They played and played and played and watched Veggie Tales (his favorite along with Toy Story 3 and Madagascar), and hung out with Jackson and got spoiled rotten which is what Nanas do best. :) We're very thankful for Claudia for coming down for the weekend!
We came back relaxed and refreshed and ready to get back to it. Tonight we're headed to another Natural's baseball game and can't wait for it and the fireworks afterward!
