We spent 10 days in Chicago on our first family vacation. It was awesome. We were in Chicago for most of it and got to celebrate my sweet friend, Jenny's, wedding at the tail end.
On our way up to Chicago, we made a pit stop for the weekend in Missouri to spend time with Nick's grandparents. We arrived Friday night in Branson at Grandma and Grandpa Braschler's house. It was so fun to spend time with them. We had dinner at their house and then spent the evening watching Cardinals baseball. The next morning we got up and had breakfast at the floating dock. Grandpa wanted to take Caleb to feed the fish and he had a blast. I love these pictures because of the sweet memories and precious family relationships. Then we made a quick stop at Dick's Five & Dime which was completely packed so we didn't last long there with a 1 yr old. Nick ran into the Cardinals store real fast to pick up some things for the game we were planning to attend in Chicago the next week. We spent the afternoon at his grandparents' house napping and watching baseball. :) Catch a theme here?
PS - at breakfast here, Caleb dipped his pancakes in ketchup. And loved it. Yuck!
Then we headed to Nixa, MO to spend time with Mamaw. She had a gourmet meal for us Saturday night, including her famous pies. :) We went to church with her Sunday morning and then took her out to Cheddar's for lunch. Yum! It was a great morning. Nick spent the afternoon going through his Papaw's books and doing some honey-dos around the house for her. It is a really special thing that Nick has gotten a large portion of Papaw's extensive library. There are many resourceful books that will and have come in handy in his ministry as a chaplain. I mostly got to read my book (the first book in the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers - so so good! - and I finished it during our trip!). Go read it now if you haven't. :) haha.
We went to bed early and then got up at 1:30 am to head for Chicago! More on that next. :)
I'm so glad we took the opportunity to spend some grandparent time. Family is so important to us and making these memories is one of my favorite things about doing life. We are blessed with an amazing family and extended family.
