Miscellaneous Caleb

Apparently my child likes to swim in his birthday suit...

His favorite color is green, hence the green apple shaved ice we got the other day...

This is his happy face...

And he is a great helper at the grocery store, even when he tips the cart over and falls down...

Mommy Time

On Tuesday night, I got to have some "me time".  :)  I am lucky to have lunches to have some me time, but sometimes you just need an evening to yourself.  I had just been thinking of this Tuesday morning and Nick somehow read my mind.  When I got home from work, he said, "Val, do you need a night?"  Yes please.  I think it is important for each parent to get some time to him or herself every once in awhile.  Good for the family, good for the marriage.  :)  I headed to the Cafe on Broadway with my kindle and got a delicious meal and iced vanilla chai and spent the evening reading in the quiet.  It was so nice.  Then I went home and changed and headed out for a jog.  And I even liked it - what is wrong with me?  haha.  I am working on Couch to 5k again and have one more run til I'll be when I stopped because of my heel.  The 20 minute run.

Thank you Nick for recognizing that alone time is important every once in awhile!  It was a wonderful evening and perfect timing.  :)

Weekend & Big Boy Bed

We moved Caleb to a big boy bed that we got from a sweet family in our church.  He has done really well in it.  The only trouble we've I've had is getting him to bed.  He listens to Nick and stays in his bed when Nick puts him to bed, but I can try for an hour of up, down, up, down and every tactic I've got to try to get him to stay down, haha.  It can be really frustrating in the moment, but I know it's only been a handful of days that he's been in it.  I will say that once he falls asleep in his bed, he has done awesome at not waking up in the middle of the night.  We were not looking forward to waking up at 3 am to a little boy 6 inches from our face, scaring the fire out of us.  Thankfully that has not happened yet.  And he has done well on not falling out until this morning.  :)  But he wasn't hurt or anything, I think it just scared him.  I would say that the transition to the big boy bed has been mostly a success!

On Saturday, I found these guys hanging out in the bathroom.  Caleb loves his farm animals.  What a little country boy.  Good morning farm friends. :)

He also found Daddy's shoes and had to try them on.  Someday his feet will be that big!!

We had a fun weekend of swimming in the kiddie pool while Nick went to an auction, shopping in Fayetteville when he got back (only fun for me, haha), dinner at Red Robin, and ended with a Naturals game!

Love that boy.

Celebrating the Fourth

We had a great time celebrating the Fourth of July this year!  Mom and Dad came down from Wednesday to Saturday.  I made this festive parfait thing that was light and delicious!

We spent an afternoon swimming in the Illinois River.  It was a beautiful day and Caleb loved swimming in the water.

A family from our church lives right across from where the city shoots off its fireworks, so they invite the church to come over and sit in their yard for the show.  This is the same place that Mack stays.  All the girls in the photo below were hollering at Mack (who you can barely see through their feet) and saying "Hi Cow!".  So Nick told Caleb to run over there and tell those girls what the cow's name was and he didn't even take a second to think, he just ran right over!  haha.  Nick said it took him til at least 8th grade to get that much courage to talk to even one girl.  I guess we have a little ladies man on our hands!  We were also laughing at Caleb putting the moves on all these little girls with his pull-up hanging out of his pants, lol.  Work it, Caleb. :)

We took a couple of walks with Mom and Dad.  They have been losing weight like crazy!  Dad has lost 38 lbs and Mom has lost 20something lbs!  Way to go Mom and Dad!

Then we shot off some fireworks on July 5th.  We didn't know there was a no fireworks in the city limits policy and almost got caught when a cop drove by and slowed way down in front of our house, lol.  Luckily we were on our last one.

This is Caleb's "cheese" face.

This is Caleb's "happy" face.

Caleb and Dad dancing in the smoke bombs.

He wasn't too sure about sparklers at the start of the evening, but by the end he was asking over and over again to do them.

Hope you had a great Fourth as well!

2nd Annual Braschler Roaring River Weekend

I didn't do a very good job of taking pictures to document our 2nd annual Roaring River Braschler weekend.    Here's last year's adventure.  All of the Todd Braschler shared a cabin and it was so nice.  We had plenty of room and a nice big kitchen and a deck out front and back.  The weather could not have been more perfect for a weekend outdoors.  The unseasonably cool temps were amazing!  Caleb and Jack were buddies all weekend.

Caleb was so excited to fishing with Daddy.  Love this picture.

We tried to get the boys to nap our last afternoon there, haha!  Wishful thinking.  :)

The ladies corralled kiddos and chilled out while the men brought home the bacon fish.  :)  Here they are with the man who taught them all about the famous peachbug (a special fly used to catch fish for all you who may not know).  :)

Nick and I stayed a little longer with Grandma and Grandpa Braschler and grabbed dinner at the lodge.  It was an awesome weekend with lots of great family time!  We even had a surprise 50th birthday party for Aunt Sherri as part of the weekend events.  We love this yearly tradition and are so glad it has become part of our summer activities.
