Random Thoughts Thursday

- This week is Nick's birthday week.  We celebrate things all week long at the Braschler house.  Yesterday, was his actual birthday.  He got to have lunch with our CEO, we went to Dickey's BBQ for dinner, watched the new Duck Dynasty seasons I got him, ate brownie chocolate chip cheesecake, sang happy birthday a few times (Caleb is getting really good at it - it is really sweet), and ran to Walmart real quick.  Today is our last Naturals baseball game of the season and tomorrow Nick is going to a gospel quartet concert with some friends, while the ladies come chill at our house.  This weekend brings house catch up time (it is so messy), dove hunting season begins Sunday (Nick is so excited he can't stand it), and Robyn and I will hang out with the boys.  Fun week.

- Last weekend we went camping with my parents at Big Hill Lake in Kansas.  We meet in the middle and it is so fun to do this each summer. Here are my previous posts about it: 2011 and 2012.  Thanks to a dead phone battery and having lots of fun, I have zero pictures from the weekend.  I am partially really bummed about that and partially really glad.  Glad because I know there was no temptation to have my phone close by and be more worried about documenting memories than actually making and enjoying them.  I love this summer tradition with my family and am so glad we made it happen this year!  We went on lots of walks, hiked a trail, plenty of swimming and eating, sitting around a campfire, and playing games.  Nick's parents even rode the motorcycle over on Saturday and joined us!  It was a blast.

- This weekend is Labor Day weekend and I couldn't be happier.  1) We have a three day weekend!  2) I get to spend lots of time with my nephew and sis-in-law. 3) Nick gets to go hunting for dove (I love eating them). 4) I finally get to catch up some on housework (like I said, it is kinda outta control after a weekend away and week full of stuff going on). 5) FALL IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!!!!!!!!!!!  yes!

-  Every week, Nick goes to Caleb's daycare and they walk down the street to Jim's Razorback pizza and have lunch together.  I think it is the cutest and sweetest thing ever.  They both really look forward to this.  Today, I got to join them and I loved every second.  What a special family memory.  I love my boys.

- I am so ready for fall to be here.

- Tonight, we are going to get new shoes for me!!!  Yay!!  I have seriously been in need of running shoes (haven't been in several days in large part because of this and part because of the awful hot temperatures).

- This weekend we are also getting serious about potty training boot camp.  Caleb has done well so far this week (ok one night and most of today), so we are going to conquer the dreaded potty training!  It has gone on for months - part of that is our own fault.  Let's do this thing!

- I thought I'd update you all on some random thoughts I've been having.  Thanks for reading.  :)  Have a great Thursday.

Weekend Happenings

If you've read this blog for any amount of time, you know how much we love going to Naturals baseball games.  It is one of our absolute favorite summer family activities.  There are not many games left in the season, so we packed in two games this past weekend!  One game we went with our good friends, The Gutshalls!  We are so grateful for their friendship.

On Thursday night, the first 1500 fans got free hats!  We're all about freebies!!

Friday night with the Gutshalls, we sat on the grass berm.  The boys had a blast running and rolling all around the grass.

Emerson downed his footlong hotdog!!  He meant business.  :)  He is just the sweetest little boy.  And potty-trained!  I hope some of that wears off on Caleb.  It is slow going in this house.

And baby Lyla is just so cute.  She loves being held by momma, but let me hold her for a few minutes at least!

It was a beautiful evening!

On Sunday, we had lunch at the Butler's house.  Nick gets together with 2 of the boys and they sing and play guitar and piano.  They sound really good!

And we watched some Incredibles.  :)

Great weekend with great friends!  We are so grateful for the friendships we have in this area!  This weekend we are going camping at Big Hill Lake with my parents and Nick's parents are joining us on Saturday!  Can't wait!

A Long Time Coming

Well, I did it.

I finally finished the Couch to 5k program this weekend.  Woohoo!!!!  This is something I have been wanting to do for probably a couple of years.  I have started it several times, talked about it herehere and here.  I started having heel pain right after I ran my first 20 minute run when I was doing it in the spring, so I took a month off during May or June I think?  I am pretty sure it is plantar fascitis.  My parents have dealt with it before.  Well, I decided to power through the pain and find ways to manage it a little better.  This past Saturday, I ran in my first 5k race, Fight Back 5k in Bentonville.  I got a dumb head cold on Thursday night right before, so I had to walk a few times, but I did it!

This is a huge deal for me.  It was emotional to finish and I even teared up.  My motivation this time was different than all the other times I've tried to complete the program: my babies.  It is important for me to work hard to take better care of my body and this has taken on a whole new meaning this past year.

Nick, Caleb and I got up super early on Saturday morning and headed to Bentonville.  They were an awesome cheering squad and sure helped to keep me motivated.  It was harder than I expected.  Before the race, the longest I had run without stopping was 28 minutes.  I finished this race in 34:44.  Even though I had to walk some, I was not the last person to finish and I did not pass out - 2 things that made it a success in my book!

I can't say that I've been bitten by the "race bug", but they sure are good goals to work toward.  I would like to keep up the hard work and the next goal is to run the entire 5k!  And my reward for completing the C25K program and the race is to go to Feet Fleet and get properly fitted for some new running shoes.  The ones I have now aren't tolerable unless I have at least 3 bandaids on and even then, I got about an inch long blister on the bottom of my foot, lol!  I can't wait for new shoes!!

Last night I went for a run.  I wasn't sure how far I would go, since this time I didn't have any specific plan in mind.  That first 1/2 - 1 mile is always the hardest for me.  My legs and calves especially are not warmed up and loose and it is so tough.  That's when I want to give up the most.  But I powered through and told myself to at least run two miles.  Well, I got to 2 miles (around 22 min for me) and told myself that I needed to at least run 28 minutes since I've done that before and then I might as well run the 30 minutes that was the last day for C25K.  And I was feeling so good that I thought I might as well just get to 3 miles for crying out loud.  And heck, why not just finish up with that last 0.1 miles to make it a solid, legitimate 5k?!  So I ran 3.1 miles without stopping last night!!  For me, that was 34:10 or something like that.  That's the farthest I've ever gone!  And I felt really great at the end!  Who am I??!  :)

I am really stoked about getting new shoes and getting properly fitted because this blister on the bottom of my foot is just getting outta control.

I just had to share a big milestone for me!!!  Woohoo!!!!!!  The tough part will be keeping it up, but I have already gone out since finishing and since I only go about 3 times a week, it's a totally doable goal.  Thankful for my man who is flexible with and supportive of me making time to run!

Julie's Wedding Weekend: Wedding Day

You can see the pre-wedding festivities here.  On Saturday, August 10, the big day was here.  The weather was beautiful, with a high temperature of 84 expected.  Amazing for August.  We started the morning with McDonald's frappes and Panera egg souffles and then headed to Julie's hair and makeup appointment.  It was fun to just hang out with my sisters and get ready for the day.

She looked stunning!

The wedding was at Eberly Farm in Wichita.  It was a beautiful place.  Perfect for a wedding.

Our little guy was the ring bearer and Zoey was the "flower girl".  :)  He sure looked cute all decked out in his little suit.  Wish I had gotten a few more pics of him.  Nick's parents were great to watch him most of the day and get him ready.  Thanks Nana & Papa!

Before the ceremony, the girls took some pictures outside.

We all wore these fun shoes and the guys wore matching black ones too.  Julie got the sparkly ones!

Caleb did so well going down the aisle.  We were a little nervous, but he did perfect.  :)  And Mom looked beautiful!!  Her and Dad have been working really hard and have both lost a bunch of weight.

There's Dad and Julie.  Sweet picture.

Nick did a really great job officiating.  This was his 3rd wedding and I was really proud of him.

Then there were some more pictures afterward, while the guests mingled and waited for dinner (which was amazing by the way!!).

I think these pictures are so sweet.  You can tell Aaron really loves Zoey.

The cupcakes were done by Artistic Cakes and they were soooooooo good.  Seriously, they were the best cupcakes I have ever had.  We got the chance to try some after the wedding at Mom and Dad's and I could not stop going on about them.  So good!  My favorite was by far the vanilla.

First dance.

Father/Daughter dance

I was trying to get Caleb to get in on the garter toss, but there was a little communication and he ran right over to Aunt Julie.  You can see him way over there in the white shirt.

Bride photo bomb!

I even made it through my speech at the reception.  Whew.  All in all, it was a wonderful weekend.  Welcome to the family Aaron!  Congratulations to Julie and Aaron!
