St. Louis Vacation: Zoo

On our second day in St. Louis, we headed to the St. Louis zoo. It was a great day, the kids had a blast and it was free! (Except for $15 parking fee). Our kids are serious animal lovers, so the zoo was perfect for them.

They had a lot of really neat exhibits, both indoor and outdoor.

Caleb got to pet a lizard (or whatever that is)!

In the insect exhibit, we got to see a display of cocoons and watched one of the workers check the case for any newly hatched butterflies and he took them to the butterfly garden area with dozens of butterflies. Pretty cool!

After the zoo, we went to Pappy's Smokehouse and the line was out the back door, along the length of the building. And this was at 2:45 in the afternoon. Good sign of a delicious place. It was some good BBQ eatin!

We then went to the hotel to rest and Nick headed out to catch the evening Cardinals game while the kids and I stayed and napped (sort of) and had planned to go swimming. We got all dressed and loaded up and the pool was closed. We had the fun experience of the elevator doors opening up to the lobby with a fancy reception going on and here we were with our suits on and all our swimming gear, ha!

All in all, a great day!

St. Louis Vacation: Cardinals games

In June, we were able to take a family vacation to St. Louis!  It was a much needed getaway and time with family.  Nick was on a two month break from grad school classes and had just finished up a program for young professionals in NWA focused on integrating your faith and work.  The first six months of this year have felt crazy busy and we had been looking forward to this vacation for a long time.  We got tickets for two Cardinals games.  We headed to the first one the evening we got in town.  It was a blast.  Also, we found out that we were sitting right behind Yadi's son!  That was pretty neat!  (Yadier Molina is the very talented catcher for the Cardinals for all you non-baseball fans).  :)

The second game was on a Sunday afternoon.  We got there early - got some free jerseys (the first game we got some free mugs!) and walked around ballpark village.  We found a restaurant that was awesome.  It was relaxed with good food that felt a little easier on the tummy than ballpark food and the kids could be comfortable and color a little.

We went in the ballpark and found a shady place to hang out for a little bit.  It wasn't much later that it started to rain.  And rain.  And rain.  We waited it out for a while with the crowd.  When there was a break in the rain, we walked back to the restaurant we had been in to wait it out a little longer.  Talked to a homeless man for a bit.  Nick was holding Caitlyn and she lovingly had a diaper explosion all over his lap.

We found a place outside to relax and wait some more.  It had been a couple of hours at this point so we were debating about what to do.  Every time the rain would stop and the sun would come out, another round of rain would come.  We sat in the mist for awhile while Nick went to go find new shorts to buy.  Cheapest ones were $60 so we passed on that.  Finally we let Caleb go play in the puddles of water, which was probably his funnest memory.  :)  We then decided to head back to the hotel because it wasn't looking very promising for the game.  That was a good decision because it ended up getting rained out and postponed to a July game.  We walked back to the hotel in the pouring rain.  Good memories, haha.  It was a bummer, but we still felt like we got the "ballpark experience" and we got to re-sell our tickets to the makeup game so those were positives.

We really had so much fun on our family trip!  We also went to the St. Louis Zoo and the Magic House, so those posts will be next!
